How I collect, use and look after your personal information.

Last updated: July 2026

Who I am

I'm Steve Mercer, trading as Steve Mercer Home Maintenance — a sole trader providing home maintenance and small repairs in Runcorn, Frodsham and Helsby, Cheshire.

For the purposes of UK data protection law, I am the data controller for any personal information you provide to me. If you have any questions about how I handle your data, please get in touch:

What information I collect

I only collect information that's needed to respond to your enquiry or carry out the work you've asked for. This may include:

I collect this information when you use the contact form on this website, when you book through the online booking system, or when you contact me directly by phone, text or WhatsApp.

Why I collect it and the lawful basis

I use your information to:

The lawful basis for processing your data is contract (to carry out the work you've requested) and legitimate interests (to respond to enquiries and communicate with you about your booking).

I do not use your information for marketing, and I will not contact you with anything unrelated to your enquiry or job without your permission.

Who I share your information with

I do not sell or share your personal information with third parties for their own purposes. The contact form on this website is handled by a script on my own hosting — submissions are emailed straight to me and are not passed through any third-party form service. To run this website and manage bookings, I do use a small number of trusted services:

All of these are reputable services operating under their own privacy policies and data protection obligations.

How long I keep your information

I keep your contact details and job information for as long as is reasonably necessary — typically up to two years after your last contact with me — in case you need to get in touch again or there is a query about work carried out.

If you'd like me to delete your information sooner, just ask and I'll do so promptly.

Your rights

Under UK GDPR, you have the right to:

To exercise any of these rights, contact me by email or phone. I'll respond as quickly as I can and always within one month.

If you're unhappy with how I've handled your information, you have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk.

Cookies

When you first visit this site, you're asked whether you're happy for me to use Google Analytics to see how the site is being used — which pages are visited, and roughly how many people are finding the site. This only happens if you say yes. If you say no, or don't choose, no analytics cookies are set, and your choice is remembered so you're not asked again on your next visit.

Google Fonts (used for the website's typography) may set a cookie when loading font files — this is a standard technical function and does not track you for advertising purposes.

Changes to this policy

If I make any significant changes to this policy, I'll update the date at the top of this page. For any questions, please get in touch directly.
